Let’s face it the town of Lowestoft hasn’t been in a good way for some while. High unemployment, lots of low quality housing and lack of activities for young people. Thankfully some parts of the town are improving and with the renewable energy resources coming into the town it could be on the up. But it needs the councils help to provide resources and opportunities for people and not simply enjoy the benefits of business taxes.
Pars of the town still resemble the heritage of this once thriving fishing port, flying high the flag of heritage and quality and one hopes, will continue to grow and flourish.
One such business is the Smoke House. It’s the oldest smokehouse in the country and wow, it really is like an Aladdin’s cave inside! An amazing small business, hanging onto the heritage and quality and producing just simply stunning smoked fish!
I had the pleasure of photographing the owner, William for a magazine feature I have just finished.
Covered in smoke, smelling of fish but with a huge smile on my face. I spent hours learning about the craft and watching William at work. A very special glimpse of a true craftsman at work.
