It’s always nice to get a call for a commission that involves something unusual, or at least a bit testing.
The client wanted a shot of paracetamol tablets looking dramatic. That was it… So, after getting a few more details about the theme of the issue, I pop along to the pharmacy, buying a few packets of tablets and making several trips to get them, explaining that I was a photographer and not about to take an overdose!
I done a few stills of the tablets, which looked quite good. Trying different backgrounds, using lightboxes and various other ideas.
Whilst these shots looked good, they didn’t quite have that bite.. I decided on shooting tablets falling, grabbing a model, I set about shooting a variety of photographs on a mainly black background. Again, having processed the images I felt yet again something was missing.. so, grabbing a handful of blue tissue paper and putting the studio lights to one side, I set about shooting the tablets with just three NIkon flashes and some colour gels.. after about 15mins of multiple shoots, the desired shot was achieved.
